Responding to tragedy in Vancouver

Posted on

by

“On behalf of the entire team at Immigrant Services Society of BC I want to express how shocked and deeply saddened we all are by the tragic loss of life that occurred at last night’s Vancouver Filipino Lapu Lapu street festival. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by this unimaginable tragedy.

We stand by our colleagues and friends in the Filipino community, not just in mourning for those who lost their lives and in support for those who have been injured or who have had to witness, respond, or live with the impacts of such violence, but also in outrage and condemnation at this senseless act wrought on one of this city’s cherished communities.

We are connecting with our staff this morning to ensure everyone who has been impacted is safe and cared for. We will also be working with our many clients and students from the Filipino community in the coming days. Together with our partners in the settlement and wider Vancouver not-for-profit community, we will continue to celebrate and support the Filipino community.

At ISSofBC, our mission is to welcome and provide ongoing support to communities from around the world that call BC home, with a vision to ensure that we all thrive together in our community. Last night was a reminder of both the importance and unfinished nature of this work.”
